Dr. Taylor has her doctorate degree in counseling with a specialty in play therapy from the University of North Texas. She also holds a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling with a certification in play therapy from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Previously, she taught special education.
Dr. Taylor is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and a National Certified Counselor. As a counselor and play therapist, Dr. Taylor works with clients across the lifespan, including children ages 3+, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Taylor has experience working in private practice, community clinics, and schools. Dr. Taylor specializes in working with children and their families and has extensive experiences working with children with disabilities, neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, life adjustments, and trauma. She also has advanced training in working with caregivers, parents, and teachers. Dr. Taylor is currently working as a clinician in private practice. She values creating an inclusive and safe space for all her clients and has extensive experience adapting play therapy playrooms for all abilities.
Dr. Taylor is an adjunct professor and considers herself a lifelong teacher and learner. She provides continuing education and professional development through workshops, conferences, and webinars. She has experience facilitating educational opportunities for college and graduate students, mental health professionals, teachers, schools, and caregivers/parents. Before becoming a counselor, Dr. Taylor was a special education teacher. She taught in various classroom settings, including resource, inclusion/co-teaching, and self-contained. In addition to speaking, Dr. Taylor serves as the current membership trustee for the North Carolina chapter of the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling. She is also a graduate of the Association for Play Therapy’s Leadership Academy and serves on several committees and task forces.
Dr. Taylor’s research interests include Child-Centered Play Therapy, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy, and Child-Teacher Relationship Training. Within each of these therapy models, Dr. Taylor explores specific outcomes related to the impact for children, caregivers, and teachers. She specializes in research for children with disabilities and their support networks, such as parents and teachers. She also has extensive experience in meta-analytic research design.
Of all the titles Jenna has, mom is her favorite. She lives with her husband and two children in Indianapolis, IN. Jenna has also lived in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Texas. She enjoys spending time outside, traveling, and trying new food.
